This class we will be looking into dark matter. This is a really interesting topic and I hope you enjoy it. I first want you to do a web search to find a recent article pertaining to dark matter. Please create a google doc with a link to the article and a brief summary of what the article says about dark matter. We will then share our findings from our articles with the rest of the class. After we share our articles we will watch the TED talk below. After watching the video, reading the article below, and discussing our articles I would like for you to write a reflection about what you have learned. Please put the reflection below your article summary. Your reflection should be well written paragraph or two.
Due:
Each person will make their own slide in this presentation. On your slide I would like for you to create 3 questions. Your questions should be focused on anything astronomy related that you have seen in science fiction. An example question could be something like “How plausible is traveling at light speed?”
Please answer your questions thoroughly and cite your sources in the speaker notes section.
Have fun with it!

Please take notes on the following excerpt from Steven Hawking's book "A Brief History of Time". Submit your notes in the form of a google doc. Make sure to write down any important information, questions, and ideas you have while going through this reading. We will discuss black holes and this reading in quite a lot of depth next class so it is important that you come in with this background knowledge.

Due:
Star Wars!
Your task is to find the most interesting star (must be real) that you can and share it out with the rest of the class. At the end of class we will take a vote to determine which star is indeed the most interesting. Each person must find a different star to research. The people who find the top three most interesting stars will have first choice as to what constellations they would like to do in a future project and the winner will get to choose an astronomy image for our google classroom’s background.
An image or an artist's interpretation of your star is required.
Star research suggestions:
What does your star look like?
How old is your star?
Are there other stars nearby?
Does your star have planets?
How big (or small) is your star?
Is your star dangerous to other objects in space (or possibly in danger)?
Are there any odd features?
Does your star have an exciting future or past?
Could life exist around your star?
Have fun with this and may the force be with you!
