Students who are approved for this course will acquire the necessary skills for employment upon graduation as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Classroom instruction is followed by clinical experience in a nursing home with potential for hospital experience. Course content includes: medical terminology, infection control, professional attitudes, and behaviors in dealing with patients and fellow staff members as specified in the State Department of Health Curriculum. Skills acquired by the student are used in direct patient care, bed making, vital signs, and other activities to be performed in a clinical setting. Upon successful completion of both the classroom and clinical phases of the course, students are eligible to take the state certification exam. If they pass, they are able to work as a CNA in nursing homes, hospitals, and other healthcare settings. This course can be used as an introduction to a college degree program in medicine or nursing.
