Marion Avitable, RN Nursing Supervisor , CNA Instructor

Welcome !  I have been working here at the North Haven Public Schools since 2006 as a School Nurse. I started as a sub nurse for the district, then as the part time nurse at the High School. I then took the full time School Nurse position at Ridge Road Elementary School January 2007 till June 2023. I also took over as the Nursing Supervisor for the district in July of 2022. I am currently the Nursing Supervisor for the district and the CNA instructor for the CNA course here at North Haven High School.
The CNA course is open to all Junior and Senior student (ages 16 +) who are interested in the medical and or health professions. Intro to Allied Health Careers or Intro to Medical and Health Careers & Biology are the prerequistites to taking this course. There is an application process as follows:

Completed Application, 2 Letters of Recommendation, C+ or better Overall

Preference given to students having taken Introduction to Allied Health Careers and Senior Students.

Students who are approved for this course will acquire the necessary skills for employment upon graduation as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Classroom instruction is followed by clinical experience in a nursing home with potential for hospital experience. Course content includes: medical terminology, infection control, professional attitudes, and behaviors in dealing with patients and fellow staff members as specified in the State Department of Health Curriculum. Skills acquired by the student are used in direct patient care, bed making, vital signs, and other activities to be performed in a clinical setting. Upon successful completion of  both the classroom and clinical phases of the course, students are eligible to take the state certification exam. If they pass, they are able to work as a CNA in nursing homes, hospitals, and other healthcare settings. This course can be used as an introduction to a college degree program in medicine or nursing.
