Course Description 

AP Human Geography is an introductory college-level human geography course. Students cultivate their understanding of human geography through data and geographic analyses as they explore topics like patterns and spatial organization, human impacts and interactions with their environment, and spatial processes and societal changes.

Class Expectations

This course will follow the Course Exam Description found on the College Board website and adheres to a rigorous pacing guide to to prepare students for the exam administration in May.  In addition to material covered in class, students are expected to keep up with reading guides outside of class to support and enhance their understanding of course content.  

AP Exam Format 

On the AP Exam students will have 60 min to complete 60 multiple choice questions and 75 min to complete 3 Free Response Questions.  

Grading Policy 

Grading of assignments will be weighted according to category points.  

Categories and percentages of students' total score are listed below. 
Homework - 15% 

Classwork - 10% 

Quizzes - 20% 

Tests & Projects - 45%
Participation - 10% 

Assessment Rewrite Policy

For test assessments only, students will have the ability to make corrections to earn back points lost.  These corrections must be submitted within one week and corrections must include the corrected response AND a written justification to demonstrate their understanding of why they lost points and why the updated response is correct.
Late Assignments
Students are expected to complete all work on time.  Any missing classwork due to an absence is due prior to the unit assessment.  After the test is completed on a given unit, late work will not be accepted.

Tests & Quizzes
Students with excused absences will have one week to make up a Test or Quiz via an appointment with the teacher.  It is the student’s responsibility to schedule and show up for appointments.  A missed appointment will result in a zero.

Papers & Projects
Presentations and other long-term assignments will also be included throughout the year. It is the responsibility of the student to keep track of their assignments.  Late projects will have a 5 point deduction for every day they are submitted beyond the due date.  


Extra credit work is not available…but extra help is.  


Students are encouraged to take advantage of afterschool review and study sessions leading up to class assessments.  


Classroom Rules and Expectations  


  • The number one rule is RESPECT.  Students WILL be respectful towards both the teacher and other students and the cultures presented in this course.
    Derogatory Language and put-downs will not be tolerated.

    • Students WILL come to class prepared and on time. 

  • For any FRQ practice, students MUST write in blue or black ink.  

  • Students WILL be expected to remain on-task and attentive during class

  • NO CELL PHONES.  During any testing administration phones must be completely off and in a student’s backpack (not on their person).  

  • Students WILL be expected to complete all assignments on time. 

  • Students WILL be free to express their ideas and opinions
    (at the appropriate times).

  • Students WILL be limited in their use of the Lav. During testing administration a section must be completed before a student is permitted to leave the room.  

  • Students WILL be expected to come to the teacher for missed assignments or if they need extra help.
