SRBI Math Intervention
Welcome Students, Parents, and Guardians,
I am excited to be part of the SRBI team and will be entering my 8th year as the Math Interventionist here at NHHS! I work closely with the teachers in the Math Department and believe our collaboration only supports individual students.
What is SRBI?
Student participation in the SRBI or Scientific Research Based Instruction Program, otherwise known nationally as RTI or Response to Intervention, begins after a student is referred to the SRBI Committee for review and it is determined that a skill deficit may be present. Tiers II & III of SRBI include creating target goals for improvement.
As the Math Interventionist, I am happy to provide direct and individualized instruction determined by my student's identified skill deficit. I monitor students' progress regularly, until the student is reassessed and it determined whether the target goal has been met and/or whether a new goal is needed. In class, students are able to review pertinent PSAT and SAT material with me to reinforce skills necessary to be successful with those tests.
In my 2022-2023 Student Survey, I asked students "If someone were to ask you to describe how you feel when you are in my room for Math Intervention, what would you say?" I am happy to share some responses.

~I feel calm, productive, supported, "at home".
~I feel as though I'm welcomed and understood. I look forward to the class, and it's a comfortable space where everyone is really nice. Everyone's learning style is incorporated, and I never feel like I'm dumb. Your care for everyone is very clear and reciprocated.
~I felt comfortable and at peace because just being in this room is my safe space.
~When I'm with Miss Rooney, I feel safe and content. Her room is a peaceful, safe place, and she only has good intentions for her students.

I then asked, "If Math Intervention is helping you, why is that? If not, what improvements would you make? Again, I am happy to share some replies.
~It is helping by keeping me on track.
~It's helping because I can get up and do equations on the board. I feel comfortable and ask lots of questions on homework. She makes sure I do my work.
~Helps because of one-on-one time and in-depth descriptions/explanations
~I get my work done.
~Math Intervention helped me recover and make the biggest academic comeback in NHHS history.
~It is a space where I can get help. I can focus on my work well and can ask for help as I need it. I can feel motivated to do my work and find that I do it quicker and more accurately because of this class.
~It is helping me because it is giving me the extra push and support I need. Also, it always hypes me up when I understand something on my own that I didn't before she helped me.
~There is no judgment when I don't get the simplest question right.
