Piano Lab

L2 Piano Lab
This class best fits students with little or no prior piano experience. The piano lab offers students the opportunity to learn basic playing techniques and note/chord reading. This course aims to teach students to play with both the right and left hand simultaneously, read from the grand staff, and by the end of the semester, perform a piece of their choice. Elements of theory, style, history and culture will be introduced to permit students a deeper understanding and awareness of musical structures, processes, performance standards, and social and cultural influences. Ear training, etudes and short songs will be a part of the daily class. Students are expected to practice daily and maintain a portfolio which will include periodic assignments such as analyses of recordings and musical selections, performance reviews, research topics of special interest, etc. Students will be evaluated on their performance and knowledge of presented materials.
